Having studied the cello with Annemarie Dengler-Speermann, Antonio Janigro, Antonio Meneses, Anner Bylsma and Hidemi Suzuki, Christoph Theinert took masterclasses with Heinrich Schiff, Boris Pergamenchikov, Janos Starker a.o. Strongly influenced by Sergiu Celibidache and Lukas Foss he got interested in conducting and composing. His first composition was written in 1986, and greatly inspired by Claudio Monteverdi, Egberto Gismonti, Heitor Villa Lobos, Lukas Foss, Joaquin Rodrigo, Giovanni Sollima, Paul Simon, John Mc Laughlin, Paco de Lucia a.o. he wrote several works with major parts for the cello, using southamerican, andalusian, hebrew and arabic elements as well.
Having lived in Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Salzburg, Hamburg, Munich, Den Haag and Amsterdam, he works as interpreter, composer and conductor.
Beside the modern cello ( metal strings ) he uses baroque cello ( gut strings ) and cello piccolo ( gut strings ) on stage.
He gave concerts in most European countries, Japan and USA.
In 1996 he was a guest professor in Tokyo and Toyama. In 2000 he attended the World Cello Congress in Baltimore. Since 2001 recordings for Ancient Music Edition Hamburg.
More and more he gets interested in experimental performance, mixing standard pieces with own music and improvisations.
